Wildlife Flowers at an elevation of 5,000 m (16,000 ft) Flora The forests in the subalpine belt consist of fir, Himalayan birch and rhododendron. Juniper and rhododendron prevail at elevations of 4,000–5,000 m (13,000–16,000 ft). Mosses and lichens grow above 5,000 m (16,000 ft). More than 1,000 floral species were recorded in the national park. Fauna Snowcock in the national park Sagarmatha National Park hosts 208 bird species including Impeyan pheasant, bearded vulture, snowcock and alpine chough. It has been designated as an Important Bird Area. Ungulates include Himalayan tahr, Himalayan serow and musk deer. The snow leopard inhabits elevations above 3,500 m (11,500 ft), and the Indian leopard roams forests in lower elevations.

Background

Nirekha peak, Nepal, is in the same chain as the Lobuche summits, east of the Cho La Col. The peak is in the list of the new 'A' trekking peaks, for which, in 2006, a peak fee of $500 had to be paid.
